Coloring a Mandala Meditation
Noted psychiatrist Carl Jung was one of the first Western psychologists to recommend coloring as a technique for helping with stress relief and relaxation. Coloring mandalas seemed to enable patients to “let go” of distractions and focus. Join us for a quiet, contemplative mandala coloring experience, and see what Jung was talking about.
Centering and Finding Wholeness With Mandala Drawing
“It became increasingly plain to me that the mandala is the centre…I knew that in finding the mandala as an expression of the self I had attained what was for me the ultimate.” -Carl Jung; Memories, Dreams, and Recollections
A mandala is a method for visualizing the self in relationship to the larger world – to your community. At this workshop, draw your own mandala from scratch using geometry. Find symbols that are comforting and meaningful to you, as you play with circles and other simple shapes. Learn coloring and mark-making techniques. Use imagery to tap into your psyche and explore a new way to express yourself. The workshop will involve some group discussion before you dive into your artwork, to share with others how you see the world.
“…drumming brings the generations together without the limitations of conversation. It is music to the human flesh, which loves to move in rhythm and sway in time.” -Steven Ash, Sacred Drumming
Come out for a hand drum circle and learn how to drum together for release and cleansing. We’ll wrap up with a drum and prayer meditation for world peace.
Learn a bit about labyrinths through the ages, and how people across the world continue to derive healing and inspiration from them. Learn how to draw a seven-path classic labyrinth design (on paper), and participate in a guided labyrinth walk and meditation.
